PRE-CONCEPTION

Check your immunity with tests for rubella, chickenpox and cytomegalovirus (CMC). Have a Pap smear if overdue. Consider genetic screening (e.g. for cystic fibrosis). Optimise your weight. Start taking folic acid every day.

POST-NATAL

Bleeding may occur for 4-5 weeks. Your post natal visit is usually at 6-7 weeks. Return of fertility can be as early as 5 weeks if you are bottle feeding. Contraception will be discussed. Even if you are breastfeeding it is possible to get pregnant before your periods return.
